Railings are the largest album here because they are the most demanded and the least standardisable. Stone-step handrails follow a stair that was built by hand, so nothing is square and every post lands at its own height. Cable rail decks are a tension problem — post stiffness and end-post detailing decide whether the cable stays taut and code-compliant years later. Interior loft systems are pure appearance, at eye level, all day.

Code sets the floor: guard height, the sphere that must not pass between members, and the load a guard has to take at the top rail. Tahoe sets the rest. A rail that catches snow becomes a snow-load member, ice adds cycles that find every under-welded joint, and anything anchored into stone or an exposed deck is a water-intrusion detail before it is a metal one. Field measurement is not optional on any of it.
